The monks in most cases enter the monastery as children, often from poor nomad families from Changthang plateau at the border to Tibet. Only few parents can afford to support the monastery financially. As the founder, Chime Rinpoche was Tibetan, KDC doesn’t get state money destined for the preservation of Ladakhi culture. Entrance fees are not charged. With the most economical lifestyle Karma Drubgyud Choeling just manages to survive the winters. The monastery needs help.
